ONCE MILANO FOR

Casa Eligo

Alberto Nespoli, co-founder of Eligo Studio alongside Domenico Rocca, presents his beautiful family home in Varazze, where the architect must inevitably compromise with the demands of everyday life.

The Varazze project is just the latest, and perhaps the most intimate, in a series of commissions that have closely connected Nespoli and his studio with the Ligurian coast. “In our projects, we try to move beyond the Mediterranean clichés associated with seasonal living and delve deeper into Liguria’s DNA, without sacrificing a contemporary sensibility”, he says.

For Nespoli, this professional connection has also become part of his personal story, when he began looking for a seaside second home for his family. “We wanted a home that could be lived in all year round, not a seasonal shell that empties out in September,” he explains.

He found it in Varazze, the western Ligurian seaside town: an apartment on the third floor of a twentieth-century building, just a stone’s throw from the narrow carrugi lanes and a four-minute walk from the sea.

The approach to making the apartment his own and giving it a more welcoming feel was to remove many of the original partitions in favour of a generous, fluid open-plan space, where the kitchen, dining area and living room share the same light.

Once Milano’s textiles bring a natural, tactile dimension to the bedrooms of Alberto Nespoli’s Varazze home. In the master bedroom, the Linen Blanket with Cabana Stripes in Coffee is paired with light blue bed linen, creating a harmonious interplay between warm, earthy tones and cool, airy hues. In the son’s bedroom, the Linen Blanket with Brick Pattern in Matcha is combined with cream bed linen, bringing a soft, natural touch of colour to the room.

Through these carefully considered combinations, Once Milano’s textiles become an integral part of the interior composition, reflecting the project’s balance between authenticity, contemporary design and the informal spirit of a home by the sea.
